Objective: Bring the iWork Product Suite to mobile devices and cloud based document management, while also enabling real-time collaboration. Integrate a massive infrastructure upgrade across iOS, MacOS, and browsers.
Requirements: Lead the design overhaul for Pages and iWork for iCloud Collaboration feature. Refresh the user interface and interactions for a cohesive and consistent experience across all platforms. Ensure alignment between iOS and MacOS code bases, setting the foundation for long-term platform integration.
Results: Successfully launched modernized designs for iWork, enhancing usability and visual consistency across all platforms which led to $5B in revenue, expanding iWork’s ecosystem and boosting user engagement through ubiquitous functionality. Established a long-term vision for platform alignment between iOS and MacOS, setting the groundwork for future innovation.
Historical context: After Steve Jobs passed away late 2011, later the following year, there was a massive pivot in Apple’s visual design language to minimalism, as Jonny Ive, head of hardware design, took over as head of all design Apple interface design.
