Hound app and Houndify platform 2016

Director of Product Design

Context: SoundHound’s music app served as a proof-of-concept for the CEO’s broader vision: creating an integrated voice technology platform with an early-AI backend system. Apple’s Siri suggested the potential of voice interaction but it struggled to achieve meaningful utility. Amazon’s Alexa was still a year away from entering the public domain.

Objective: Leverage SoundHound’s voice recognition expertise and innovative domain knowledge to craft an experience that empowers users to harness their voice to enhance their daily lives. The new mobile app will act as the flagship experience, demonstrating the platform’s extensibility and serve as a showcase to attract partner developers and clients.

Requirements: Create a scalable, cohesive theme that aligns with the existing brand while allowing room for future growth. Ensure consistent branding across all app elements by developing a refined color palette, defining clear typography, and enhancing the current brand voice. Implement strong visual and UX patterns that are adaptable across all platforms—web, iOS, and Android—delivering a seamless and polished user experience.

Results: Delivered a cutting-edge, voice-activated, low-tap interaction app that enabled rapid search functionality. This innovation attracted strategic partnerships with top brands like Expedia, Uber, Yelp, Honda, and Mercedes-Benz. The platform received worldwide press acclaim for its speed, accuracy, and design, continuing to build and evolve.
